Who are the best GATE/ASET preparation providers in Perth?
As of October 2026, ranked by the Starworks exam-prep score (parent reviews, track record, focus on the exam, teaching, and published fees and times), the 21 Perth tutoring businesses whose own websites offer GATE/ASET preparation are led by Test Champs-WA (previously Scholastic Excellence) (91.3/100: 4.9 stars from 79 Google reviews across 3 listings, running since 2004), followed by High Hopes Tutoring Centre (69.1/100: 4.9 stars from 184 Google reviews) and Accelerated Learning Tutoring Centre (68.1/100: 5.0 stars from 4 Google reviews, running since 1999). Each listing on this page quotes the business's own website.
How long has each Perth provider of GATE/ASET preparation been running?
Three of the 21 state a start year on their own websites: Test Champs-WA (previously Scholastic Excellence), since 2004; Accelerated Learning Tutoring Centre, since 1999; Absorb Knowledge Successfully, since 2006. Of the others, 13 do not state one, and 5 are branches of a larger organisation, whose start year is not counted as theirs.

What does the ASET test?
The Academic Selective Entrance Test (ASET) is the test the WA Department of Education uses to select students for its Gifted and Talented secondary programs, including Perth Modern School. It has four parts: reading comprehension, communicating ideas in writing, quantitative reasoning and abstract reasoning. Source: WA Department of Education, education.wa.edu.au.
Why is Test Champs-WA (previously Scholastic Excellence) first?
Test Champs-WA (previously Scholastic Excellence) scores 91.3 out of 100: parent reviews 31.3 of 40 (4.9 stars from 79 Google reviews across 3 listings); track record 20 of 20 (running since 2004, by its own website); focus on GATE/ASET preparation 20 of 20 (a page of its own website about it; names reading comprehension, writing, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning and practice tests); teaching 10 of 10 (a stated class-size cap and classes taught by qualified or experienced teachers on its own website); published fees and times 10 of 10 (fees and class times on its own website).
How is this list ordered?
The order is the Starworks exam-prep score, out of 100, worked out the same way for every business: parent reviews 40 (the Google rating across all of the business's listings on this list, each listing counted once, discounted when it rests on few reviews: rating minus 1.645 divided by the square root of the number of reviews, scored from 3.5 up to 5.0); track record 20 (the years since the start year its own website states, full marks at 15; branches of a larger organisation's site do not take the organisation's year); focus on the exam 20 (half for a page of its own website about it, by its address, half for naming at least 2 of the things it covers); teaching 10 (half for a stated class-size cap of 10 or fewer, half for classes taught by qualified or experienced teachers); and published fees and times 10 (half each). Every part is read from Google's figures or the pages of the business's own website we read; a site that only shows its fees or timetable after scripts run, or on pages we did not read, scores nothing for them. Ties go to more Google reviews, then the name. Nothing else changes a position. No business can pay to be listed or ranked, and nothing is placed by hand. Why these five: they are what parents weigh when they choose exam preparation, and each one is read from Google's own figures or the business's own website, so any parent can check it. Every listing shows its score part by part.
What counts as a business offering GATE/ASET preparation?
The business's own website has to offer GATE/ASET preparation in a full sentence about what it offers, or on its own price list. Each listing quotes that line and links to where it was published. A review, a sentence in the first person singular or a job ad does not count.
Can a business pay to be listed or to rank higher?
No. No business can pay to be listed or ranked on Starworks, and nothing on this page is placed by hand. A business is listed because its own website offers the service, and its position comes only from the published order.
My business offers GATE/ASET preparation but is not listed. Why?
The list is built from what each business's own website says. 48 of the 196 Perth tutoring businesses Starworks holds have no website of their own on file, and 17 sites could not be read. If your site does not name the service in a sentence about what you offer or on a price list we read, it will not appear. Say it on your site and it is picked up the next time the list is rebuilt.
How often is this list updated?
This list was built from the businesses' websites as read on 25 October 2026, with Google ratings as Starworks held them that day. It is rebuilt from scratch, by the same rules, whenever it is updated.
